Background

Tasked with branding for the Symbios Quartet, the challenge was to reflect the ensemble’s dynamic nature while preparing for future growth. This quartet isn't just playing music; they’re crafting auditory experiences that push the boundaries of classical and contemporary genres. Newly emerging on the professional scene, the quartet aimed to establish a brand that could expand and resonate beyond just their immediate performances.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to develop a brand identity that encapsulates the quartet's innovative approach to music, appealing to a diverse audience—from die-hard classical aficionados to newcomers to the saxophone's charm. An additional challenge was the conflicting feedback from the four members, which required careful management through clear communication and face-to-face meetings.

An in-depth survey was created and distributed among the members to facilitate this process and deepen the understanding of each member's vision and interaction
within the quartet. The survey focused on individual perceptions about their role, the quartet's direction, and their collective goals, providing essential insights that guided the initial stages of sketches and concept development.

Solution

A sophisticated brand mark was crafted, combining a rich, earthy bronze and deep navy blue to symbolise the quartet's blend of warmth and tradition with modern sophistication. The typography choice, Scandia, reflects modernity and innovation, with custom adjustments to the 'm' and 'b' subtly nodding to musical elements and the saxophone's silhouette.

This branding has accurately represented who they are and how they want to be perceived within the music industry, achieving overall customer satisfaction through a meticulous and detailed approach. The early engagement through the survey also built significant trust with the quartet, demonstrating a genuine commitment to understanding their unique musical ethos.
